Kdenlive

Free and open source non-linear video editor from the KDE community

Visit Kdenlive

Kdenlive is a free, open source non-linear video editor for Linux, Windows, macOS and BSD. Built with C++ and Qt on the MLT framework, which relies on FFmpeg for decoding and encoding, it handles ingest through to final output, with a customizable interface. Asset management covers footage in a wide range of audio and video formats, metadata review, proxies for playback on lower-end systems, and organization via tags, filters and multiple bins.

Editing features include a flexible non-linear workflow, multicam and 3-point editing, nested sequences, markers and automatic backups. Audio tools comprise mixers, built-in voiceover recording and an audio spectrum. The application offers hundreds of audio and video effects with keyframes, transitions and compositions, plus color tools such as LUTs, basic correction, grading, histogram, vectorscope, RGB parade and waveform. Subtitles support automatic transcription with layering and styling, alongside title clips and connection to Glaxnimate for motion graphics. Effects libraries include Frei0r and Movit for video, LADSPA and SOX for audio.

Kdenlive is part of the KDE Community, maintained by a small, mostly volunteer team, and licensed under the GNU General Public License. There are no license fees, registrations or subscriptions, and no premium features requiring payment.
