LaTeX

A document preparation system.

Visit LaTeX

LaTeX is a document preparation system for high-quality typesetting, most often used for medium-to-large technical or scientific documents but suitable for almost any form of publishing. It separates content from presentation: authors write structure and content, while document design is handled by templates and styles. It is free software distributed under the LaTeX Project Public License, with no license fees.

Its features include typesetting journal articles, technical reports, books, and slide presentations; control over large documents with sectioning, cross-references, tables, and figures; complex mathematical formulas, including advanced mathematics with AMS-LaTeX; automatic generation of bibliographies and indexes; multi-lingual typesetting; inclusion of artwork and process or spot colour; and use of PostScript or Metafont fonts. LaTeX is available for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, and online. The LaTeX3 project is a long-term research effort to develop the next version of the system, with development code available for experimentation.
