Lago is an open-source billing platform for usage-based, subscription, prepaid, and hybrid pricing. It captures product usage events—such as AI tokens, API calls, or compute hours—aggregates them into billable metrics, and combines them with commercial terms to generate itemized invoices. It can be self-hosted on your own infrastructure or run as a managed cloud service.
The platform includes usage metering, quotes and order forms, prepaid credit wallets, entitlements and quotas, invoicing, and tax application. It connects to AI providers and gateways (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Google Gemini, Mistral, Databricks, Cloudflare), payment providers (Stripe, Adyen, GoCardless), accounting systems (NetSuite, Xero), tax providers (Anrok, Avalara), CRMs, and data tools. An AI Agent SDK collects usage from LLMs, and AI assistants handle billing and finance queries. Applications integrate via REST API, SDKs (JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Go), and signed webhooks.
Lago is aimed at engineering, product, finance, and operations teams building complex pricing models. The open-source version is free to self-host under an AGPLv3 license; Lago Premium is available on Cloud or self-hosted with pricing shared directly.
