Kill Bill is an Apache 2.0-licensed, self-hostable billing and payments platform for managing subscriptions, usage-based billing, and payment processing. It handles recurring charges, metered consumption, prepaid balances, and invoicing on a single system, letting businesses run billing on their own infrastructure with data under their control.
The platform includes subscription management, a payment platform with gateway integrations, and Kaui, a back-office admin UI for finance and support teams. Aviate, the enterprise accelerator layer, adds Metering APIs for streaming raw usage events with configurable aggregation (sum, max, count), Wallet for prepaid credit balances, and Catalog & Pricing for plans, tiers, and promotions. Additional modules cover Tax & Compliance, Plugins & Integrations, and Enterprise Operations with multi-tenancy and RBAC. It supports hybrid models combining subscriptions with metered usage on one invoice, and token-based AI billing.
Kill Bill targets engineering leaders, finance and ops teams, and growth-stage companies running B2B, B2C, or hybrid billing models. It is available as a free open-source, self-hosted option deployed via Docker or AWS with community support, or as Aviate, a cloud-hosted managed edition with auto-scaling, monitoring, and fixed pricing rather than a percentage of revenue. A sandbox is available for evaluation, and enterprise support options are offered.
