KeePass is a free, open-source password manager that stores credentials in a single encrypted database protected by a master key, so users need to remember only one key to unlock all entries. The database is encrypted with AES-256, ChaCha20, or Twofish, and the master key is hashed with SHA-256 and processed through a key derivation function such as AES-KDF or Argon2. The entire database, including usernames and notes, is encrypted, and passwords are protected in process memory while the application runs.

KeePass supports multiple user keys, including master passwords, key files, or a combination of both, and can lock a database to a Windows user account. It runs portably on Windows without installation, with ports available for Android, iOS, and other systems. Features include auto-type with a global hot key, drag-and-drop, clipboard handling with timed clearing, password groups, time fields, entry attachments, searching and sorting, a random password generator, and multi-language support. It exports to TXT, HTML, XML, and CSV, imports from more than 35 formats, and extends functionality through a plugin architecture. KeePass is free and open source, with no paid editions or usage-based pricing described.
