Joplin is an open source note-taking application for capturing notes in Markdown or rich text, storing them in an open format, and accessing them across devices. It supports multimedia notes with images, videos, PDFs, and audio, plus math expressions, diagrams, and photos taken from the mobile app. Notes can be synchronized through Joplin Cloud, Dropbox, or OneDrive, and secured with end-to-end encryption.
The app runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, with a terminal app also available. A web clipper extension for Chrome and Firefox saves web pages and screenshots as notes. Customization is available through plugins, custom themes, Rich Text or Markdown editors, and an Extension API for scripts and plugins. Joplin Cloud adds notebook collaboration, note publishing to the internet, Email to Note, and a beta AI feature that can summarize, rewrite, or answer questions about notes from the desktop app.
Joplin Cloud is offered in Basic, Pro, Pro 100 GB, and Teams plans, with monthly or yearly billing; Teams is priced per user with a minimum of two users. A 14-day free trial is available. Joplin Server Business is a self-hosted option for organizations, with per-user pricing based on user count and annual billing. An education discount is offered for students and teachers.
