FreedomBox

Personal server running a free software operating system with free applications for a home

Visit FreedomBox

FreedomBox is a private server for non-experts that lets users install and configure server applications with a few clicks. It runs on inexpensive hardware of the user's choice, using their own internet connection and power, and remains under their control. It is free and open source software, an official part of the Debian GNU/Linux distribution, and supported by the non-profit FreedomBox Foundation.

The FreedomBox interface simplifies and automates administrative tasks such as installing applications and applying updates. Apps are installed from within the interface and include Nextcloud for file storage and collaboration, Syncthing for file synchronization, OpenVPN and WireGuard for virtual private networks, Matrix Synapse and ejabberd for chat, Postfix/Dovecot and Roundcube for email, Radicale for calendar and address book, WordPress and ikiwiki for websites and blogs, Samba for network file storage, Tor and I2P for anonymity, and Home Assistant for home automation, among others.

FreedomBox is aimed at individuals and households who want to host web services at home on a device they own. It can be set up on hardware the user builds themselves, purchased as a pre-built device, or tried in the cloud.
