Tyk is an API management platform that provides an API gateway, analytics, developer portal, and dashboard. It supports REST, GraphQL, gRPC, MCP, A2A, Kafka, and MQTT protocols. The platform offers rate limiting, authentication, governance, observability, and AI governance for APIs and AI agents. It can be deployed as self-managed, hybrid, or cloud, and is available as open source (Apache-2.0 core).
The platform includes modules for API proxying, GraphQL proxying, event proxying, agent proxying, and LLM proxying, alongside a unified control plane for security, governance, auditing, observability, and monetization. It integrates with OpenTelemetry for metrics, logs, and traces, and supports GitOps workflows through Tyk Operator and Kubernetes CRDs. AI governance features include per-tool rate limiting, filtered tool discovery, OAuth 2.1 with Protected Resource Metadata, model allow-lists, PII redaction, and spend budgets. The developer portal supports self-service for both humans and agents.
Tyk is packaged in three editions: Core (usage-based), Professional (flat-rate with unlimited APIs and requests), and Enterprise (custom pricing with advanced governance, multi-region and multi-cloud support, and premium support). All tiers support Cloud, Hybrid, and Self-managed deployments. A free open source API gateway is available via GitHub, along with a 48-hour free trial of Tyk Cloud and guided proof-of-concept options.
