TWiki is an open source enterprise wiki and web application platform designed to serve as an intranet, project development space, document management system, knowledge base, or groupware tool. It addresses the problem of outdated intranet content and fragmented collaboration by letting users edit pages directly in a browser, organize content into webs, and build custom applications without programming skills.

Core capabilities include TWiki Forms for structured content and simple workflows, revision control with page history and diffs, fine-grained access control based on users and groups, variables for dynamic page composition, full-text search with regular expressions, file attachments, email notifications, and conflict resolution for simultaneous edits. A plugin architecture provides over 400 server-side extensions, including CalendarPlugin, ChartPlugin, DatabasePlugin, HeadlinesPlugin, SlideShowPlugin, SpreadSheetPlugin, and XpTrackerPlugin, with developers able to write Perl plugins through the TWiki Plugin API. Templates and skins separate presentation from logic, and the platform runs as a Perl CGI application.

TWiki is intended for organizations and distributed teams that need a self-maintained intranet or collaboration space, as well as developers extending functionality through plugins. It is released as GPL open source software with source code, templates, and documentation available for download; professional services and configuration support are offered separately.
