Visit TCPDUMP & LIBPCAP

tcpdump is a command-line packet analyzer, and libpcap is a portable C/C++ library for network traffic capture. Together, they allow users to intercept and display network packets transmitted over a network, solving the problem of diagnosing network issues, analyzing traffic patterns, and debugging network protocols without a graphical interface.

The software provides a range of capabilities for packet capture and analysis. tcpdump supports filtering with Berkeley Packet Filter expressions and can decode numerous network protocols. libpcap offers a programming API for capturing packets, with support for various capture modules including Endace DAG, Myricom SNF, netmap, and RDMA. The tools are available for multiple platforms such as FreeBSD, Linux, macOS, NetBSD, OpenBSD, QNX, and Solaris 11, and include man pages and documentation for users and developers.

tcpdump and libpcap are open source tools released under a 3-clause BSD license, intended for network administrators, security professionals, and developers. They are distributed as free software with no paid editions or plans, and are available for download from the project's website.
