SIL Language Technology is the software and standards program of SIL Global, producing tools that let communities work with their languages in digital environments. It addresses language documentation, literacy materials, dictionary creation, translation, and support for complex writing systems, with products designed to share data formats and form integrated workflows.
The product range includes FieldWorks Language Explorer (FLEx) for language documentation and analysis, SayMore and Audio Project Manager for audio and video recordings, Bloom for literacy books, PrimerPro and PrimerPrep for primers, WeSay for dictionaries, Adapt It for translation adaptation, Paratext, Scripture Forge, HearThis, Scripture App Builder, Dictionary App Builder, and Webonary. Writing support covers SIL fonts such as Andika, Gentium, and Awami Nastaliq, Graphite keyboards, and the ScriptSource script reference. The department also contributes to Unicode, ISO 639-3, and LIFT standards.
It is aimed at linguists, literacy and translation workers, and language communities, with many applications offering multilingual interfaces. Most SIL software is distributed under open licenses such as the SIL Open Font License and MIT License, allowing free use, modification, and redistribution; no paid editions or trials are described.
