RealTerm

Serial terminal program for capturing, controlling and debugging binary and difficult data

Visit RealTerm

RealTerm is a terminal program for engineers who need to capture, control and debug binary and other difficult data streams. It supports serial ports, USB serial, TCP/IP and Telnet, as well as I2C bus, SPI and 1-Wire chip control through BL233B / I2C2PC hardware.

Data can be displayed as hex, 8/16/32-bit values, little or big endian, signed, unsigned or float. The program includes ANSI/VT100 terminal emulation, a special hex font for hidden control characters, frame sync with masks and XORs, timestamps, capture to file with restart and auto-naming, and a protocol analyser / port-spying mode. It also provides global hotkeys, fullscreen and MiniTerminal modes, control-line viewing, binary send sequences, and arbitrary baud rates. Remote control is available through ActiveX/COM, with command-line and INI-file support for batch use and integration as a serial I/O component in other programs. Bluetooth BLE support is listed for I2C2PC-BLE and HM10,11,15 devices.

RealTerm is aimed at engineers debugging communications, embedded hardware and data streams, and at developers who need a scriptable serial interface. It is distributed as a Windows application, with an installer, ActiveX registration and TermHex fonts installed automatically. A separate driver is required for FTDI USB adapters, and for Spy mode or PicProg functions. The project is developed on SourceForge, with a beta version under development and an examples directory for scripting and integration.
