Pylon is an infrastructure management platform for water and electricity utilities, combining smart metering hardware with software for metering data management, billing, loss reduction and utility operations. Founded in 2017, the company targets utilities in emerging markets, addressing challenges such as energy waste, theft, tampering and carbon emissions through digitization and data-driven operations.
The Utility Management Platform (UMP) includes more than 11 modules, among them Universal HES for vendor-independent metering data management, AI and ML-powered losses reduction analytics for energy losses and Non-Revenue Water, an integrated billing and revenue collection system, load management recommendations, a utility-specific ERP, and AI-powered mechanical meter reading using Image Recognition. The platform is meter agnostic, supporting smart, prepaid, post-paid and mechanical meters without vendor lock-in, and is designed to scale across utility operations.
Pylon offers three packaging models: a Standard option with a one-time license fee per meter plus annual support and maintenance; Smart Meter as a Service (SMaaS), a subscription covering hardware, platform access, maintenance, training and round-the-clock support with minimal upfront cost; and Software as a Service (SaaS), a monthly subscription for the full UMP or selected modules with automatic version updates.
