PromptLayer

Workbench for AI engineering teams to manage prompts

Visit PromptLayer

PromptLayer is a platform for managing prompts and AI agents across their lifecycle, addressing the problem of prompts scattered through codebases and changes that require application redeploys. It provides a shared workspace where engineers and non-technical domain experts can edit, version, test, and deploy prompts, and where teams can inspect production behavior before changes reach users.

Core modules include a prompt registry with visual editing, versioning, comments, diffs, rollbacks, and A/B testing; an evaluation harness supporting dataset-backed tests, historical backtests, regression tests, human review, automated graders, and model comparisons; and observability with production traces, tool call inspection, cost and latency analytics, and searchable execution logs. Agent workflows can be versioned and evaluated as multi-step runs. An OpenTelemetry-native integration captures Claude Code sessions end-to-end, streaming traces to an OTLP endpoint without a proxy, and real runs can be promoted into versioned datasets for evaluation pipelines.

PromptLayer is aimed at AI engineering teams, product and content teams, and subject matter experts who iterate on prompts without engineering involvement. It is packaged in Free, Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans with seat-based and usage-based limits on users, requests, eval executions, and dataset size, plus pay-as-you-go overages on paid tiers. Enterprise adds custom limits, role-based access controls, deployment approvals, SSO, HIPAA with a BAA, and self-hosted managed single-tenant hosting.
