MusicBrainz Picard
Cross-platform music tagger powered by the MusicBrainz database
MusicBrainz Picard is a cross-platform music tagger written in Python that identifies audio files using the community-maintained MusicBrainz database, then renames them and sorts them into a configurable folder structure. It is designed to organize music collections and fill in missing or incorrect metadata, including files that carry no existing tags.
Picard supports popular formats such as MP3, FLAC, OGG, M4A, WMA, and WAV. It uses AcoustID audio fingerprints to identify music by its actual audio, can look up entire CDs, and can find and download cover art. A scripting language lets users control file naming and tag output, while a selection of plugins can be installed or written to add further functionality. The software is open source under GPL 2.0 or later and is developed on GitHub.
Picard is aimed at people who maintain local music libraries and want to standardize their files and metadata. It is available for download across platforms, with documentation, community channels, and a plugin ecosystem supporting its use.
