Monero

A digital currency that is secure, private, and untraceable

Visit Monero

Monero is a decentralized cryptocurrency launched in April 2014 as a fair, pre-announced release of the CryptoNote reference code, with no premine or instamine and no portion of the block reward allocated to development. It is designed to keep transactions confidential while remaining usable as a currency for exchanging goods, services, and other currencies. Wallets are available for a variety of platforms, and coins can be obtained through mining, exchange for work, or centralized and decentralized exchanges converting fiat money to XMR.

Privacy and security features include RingCT, stealth addresses, ring signatures, transactions over Tor/I2P, and Dandelion++. The network uses the RandomX proof-of-work algorithm, which is ASIC-resistant and CPU-friendly, with blocks created roughly every two minutes and a dynamic block size. Development resources include User Guides, Developer Guides, the Moneropedia glossary, and a Library with downloadable publications. The Monero Research Lab (MRL) conducts research into protocol improvements, and community workgroups, hangouts, and a Community Crowdfunding System support project governance.
