A Touch-Optimized Web Framework

jQuery Mobile is an HTML5-based user interface system for building responsive websites and apps that run across smartphone, tablet, and desktop devices. Built on jQuery and jQuery UI, it addresses the need to design a single responsive site or application rather than separate versions for each mobile device or operating system. The project is no longer supported.

It provides Ajax navigation with page transitions, touch events, and a range of widgets, with lightweight code built on progressive enhancement. Theming is handled through ThemeRoller for Mobile, a drag-and-drop tool for colors and custom themes, and a download builder generates a custom JavaScript file along with full and structure-only stylesheets containing only the components you select. The latest stable version is 1.4.5, compatible with jQuery 1.8–1.11 and 2.1.

jQuery Mobile is aimed at developers building cross-platform responsive web interfaces. It is open source and distributed as a downloadable framework rather than a hosted service, with no subscription or seat-based packaging.
