Free reference manager for scholarly literature
JabRef is a free, open-source reference manager for discovering, collecting, organizing, and citing scholarly literature and research. It supports researchers at every stage of their work, from gathering sources to managing citations. The software stores data in a simple text-based file format, avoiding vendor lock-in and keeping bibliographic records portable.
JabRef is developed and maintained by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including PhD students, postdocs, and industry researchers, with contributions from volunteers. The project is distributed as free, open-source software and is available as desktop applications, browser extensions, and a development build. It is intended for students and researchers who need a reference management tool that remains accessible and community-supported.
