IntenseDebate is a hosted comment system for websites, designed to manage reader discussions around published content. It supports threaded replies so readers can respond directly to individual comments, and it sends email notifications when replies or new comments are posted. Replies and moderation can also be handled by email.
The system includes commenter profiles with reputation scores, comment voting, and comment history. Moderation tools cover keyword filtering, blacklisting by keyword, email or IP address, and spam filtering via Akismet, with support for multiple admins. Readers can sign in through Facebook Connect or Twitter, use a Gravatar-linked profile, or comment as a guest. A Plugins API allows custom extensions, and widgets display comment stats and recent activity. A WordPress plugin adds two-way comment sync, admin panel integration, SEO-friendly output, trackback syncing, and profile sync.
IntenseDebate is built for website owners and publishers on platforms including WordPress, Tumblr, and Blogger. Installation involves entering a URL, selecting a platform, and following the provided instructions.
