Visit Geni

Geni is a collaborative genealogy platform where users contribute to a single shared family tree rather than maintaining separate private trees. It addresses the duplication of research effort by letting contributors add profiles, connect relatives, and build on work already done by others, while applying privacy protections to living people.

The platform includes an advanced tree builder, unlimited profile creation, source citations, consistency checks, blood and in-law relationship paths, tree matches, and site-wide profile search. Users can upload photos and media, join genealogy projects, and participate in discussion groups. Record Matches and Smart Matches integrate with MyHeritage to surface historical documents supporting profile data. The interface is translated into over 150 languages.

Geni is intended for families, historians, researchers, and volunteers working on shared ancestry. It is packaged in two plans: a free Basic account with unlimited profiles, the consistency checker, media uploads up to a set limit, duplicate resolution, relationship paths, and project access; and a paid Pro subscription adding unlimited tree matches, full site-wide search, unlimited media uploads, and additional workspace tools. A free trial of Pro is available.
