FrankenPHP

The Modern PHP App Server, written in Go

Visit FrankenPHP

FrankenPHP is an application server for PHP written in Go, built on top of Caddy, and a library for embedding the PHP interpreter in Go web servers. It replaces PHP-FPM with its own SAPI, so a PHP application can be served from a single binary without an external service. It supports HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3, automatic HTTPS certificate generation and renewal, and can run PHP scripts from the command line.

Key capabilities include a worker mode that boots the application once and keeps it in memory, a code watcher that restarts workers on changes, native support for popular PHP extensions including OPcache and XDebug, and compatibility with PHP 8.2+ and all Caddy modules. It includes a built-in Mercure hub for real-time events, Early Hints support, Brotli, Zstandard and Gzip compression, structured logging, Prometheus metrics and tracing, and graceful reloads. It is compatible with Symfony, API Platform and Laravel, and can be packaged as a standalone executable or run via Docker on Kubernetes and other cloud platforms.
