Fossil

A coherent software configuration management system.

Visit Fossil

Fossil is a distributed software configuration management system that combines version control with project management tools. It addresses the need for a single, self-contained solution that handles code history alongside tasks such as bug tracking, wiki documentation, forums, email alerts, chat, and technotes. Content is stored in an SQLite database with atomic transactions and automatic self-checks to verify repository consistency before each commit.

Fossil includes a built-in, themeable, and extensible web interface with information pages for project visibility. It supports autosync mode to reduce unnecessary forking and merging, and communicates over HTTPS or SSH, making it suitable for use behind firewalls and proxies. The system is distributed as a single executable for Linux, Mac, and Windows, with source code available for compilation. It is designed to be resource-efficient for self-hosting.

Fossil is released under the 2-clause BSD license and is available as free, open-source software.
