D3

The JavaScript library for bespoke data visualization

Visit D3

D3 is an open-source JavaScript library for building custom, data-driven visualizations directly in the browser. It addresses the need for flexible charting and interaction beyond what fixed charting components provide, letting developers encode data into visual values and manipulate the DOM in response to that data.

Its modules cover selections and transitions, scales and axes, shapes, interactions such as panning, zooming, brushing and dragging, layouts including treemaps, trees, force-directed graphs, Voronoi, contours, chords and circle-packing, and geographic maps with spherical projections. It also includes CSV parsing, localized date parsing and formatting, color spaces, calendar math and statistics. The D3 team also builds Observable Plot, a higher-level API for quick charts built on top of D3.

D3 is aimed at developers and data practitioners who need bespoke visualizations in web applications. It is distributed under the ISC License and is developed by Observable, which also offers a collaborative data analysis platform where D3 can be used alongside cloud, file and database data sources.
