CGSecurity
Data recovery: TestDisk & PhotoRec
CGSecurity offers free and open source data recovery software for situations involving lost partitions, hard disk partition problems, deleted files, and lost digital pictures or documents. Its tools are designed to help users recover data directly from storage media when files or partitions are no longer accessible.
The main tools are TestDisk, which recovers lost partitions and undeletes files across filesystems including NTFS, FAT variants, exFAT, ext2/3/4, btrfs, HFS, JFS, ReiserFS, UFS, and XFS, and PhotoRec, a signature-based file recovery utility supporting more than 440 file formats such as JPG, MSOffice, and OpenOffice documents. The site also provides CmosPwd for recovering BIOS setup passwords, along with security publications covering topics like buffer overflow, DNS configuration, IDS, firewalling under Linux, and computer forensics.
CGSecurity's tools are aimed at users needing to recover lost partitions or files from storage media, as well as those seeking password recovery utilities and security reference material. The software is distributed as free and open source tools, with documentation, a forum, and donation options available alongside the downloads.
