BOINC
BOINC lets you help cutting-edge science research using your computer.
BOINC is an open-source platform for volunteer computing. The BOINC application runs on a user's computer, downloads scientific computing jobs, and executes them in the background while the machine is otherwise in use. Projects hosted on the platform cover research areas including diseases, climate change, and pulsar discovery. The BOINC and Science United projects are based at the University of California, Berkeley.
Users can join Science United to contribute to chosen science areas across current and future projects, or download BOINC directly to select specific projects, which also enables participation in competitions and systems such as Gridcoin. For scientists, the platform supports creating and running a BOINC project, including Docker and Autodock jobs through BOINC Central. Additional resources include a user manual, add-ons, message boards, and a public GitHub repository for programmers. BOINC is distributed under the GNU Free Documentation License.
