Bochs

Cross-platform IA-32 (x86) PC emulator.

Visit Bochs

Bochs is a portable, open source IA-32 (x86) PC emulator written in C++ that runs on most popular platforms. It emulates the Intel x86 CPU, common I/O devices, and a custom BIOS, allowing operating systems and software to run inside the emulator on a workstation, effectively providing a machine within a machine.

It can be compiled to emulate many x86 CPUs, from early 386 to recent x86-64 Intel and AMD processors, and can run operating systems such as Linux, DOS, and Microsoft Windows. Bochs can be compiled and used in a variety of modes, some still in development. The source tree is hosted on GitHub, and releases are distributed through the project's SourceForge page.

Bochs is intended for users who need complete x86 PC emulation on a workstation, such as running legacy or cross-platform software in a window. It is open source and available for download as source code, with documentation including a user guide, developer guide, and FAQ.
