zfs.rent
Colocate your own 3.5-inch SAS/SATA hard drives in a Tier 2 datacenter
zfs.rent offers flat-rate, physical 3.5-inch hard-disk drive colocation. Customers mail their own drives to the provider, which hosts them in a datacenter and passes them through to a dedicated virtual machine. Pricing is charged per slot-month rather than per terabyte, so the price does not scale with drive capacity. Each drive slot adds 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 25 GB NVMe to the VM. Data redundancy, filesystem choice and RAID configuration are left to the customer; drives are passed through verbatim, so ZFS, btrfs, ext4 or other filesystems can be used. The company was started in late 2020 by Ryan, with Scott joining later to handle business and support. As of the about page, they host over 200 drives from a small HQ north of Sacramento, with equipment colocated in Fremont, CA.
