Units
A New School for the Ambitious
Units is an online high school program where students earn Ontario high school credits at their own pace. It replaces static lectures and timed exams with interactive lessons, project-based work, and AI-supported coaching, aiming to build practical skills alongside transcript credit.
Core features include adaptive interactive lessons, Gilbert, a Socratic AI tutor, and weekly planning that turns courses and deadlines into a daily schedule. Assessments ask students to create work, defend their choices verbally, and critique AI-generated drafts. Progress is tracked through XP, streaks, mastery trends, and accuracy metrics, with cohort leaderboards. Each unit ends in a shippable artifact such as a YouTube video, Medium article, GitHub project, or client deck, submitted as a real URL. AI tools are permitted and expected in assignments.
Units serves high school students, including those pursuing college preparation, credit recovery, homeschooling with real OSSD credits, or earning credit for a venture they are building. Programs are organized into paths such as Founding Class, College Prep, Builders, Homeschool, Replace the Tutor, and Credit Recovery, with a campus option planned for San Francisco. An application process is in place, and scholarships are available.
