ThingsBoard is a source-available IoT platform that connects devices, collects and processes telemetry, and presents the results through dashboards and end-user interfaces. It supports direct device connections, gateways, LoRaWAN and NB-IoT networks, and platform integrations, with protocols including MQTT, Modbus, OPC UA, BACnet, CoAP, HTTP, Sigfox, S7 and OCPP. The platform models devices, assets, customers and hierarchies, and supports digital twins, rule chains, calculated fields, alarm rules and OTA firmware updates.
Core capabilities include real-time dashboards built from more than 600 widgets, multi-tenancy with data isolation, white-labeling, fine-grained RBAC, OAuth 2.0 SSO and two-factor authentication. Data can be stored in SQL, NoSQL or hybrid configurations, and deployments can scale from a single monolithic instance to clustered microservices. The wider ecosystem includes IoT Gateway for legacy and industrial protocols, Edge for local processing, Trendz for predictive analytics and anomaly detection, a Mobile App Builder for iOS and Android, the TBMQ MQTT broker, and the IoT Hub marketplace. Built-in AI tools include an AI Assistant and AI Solution Creator that generate and edit solutions from natural-language prompts, plus a ThingsBoard CLI for terminal-based work.
ThingsBoard is available as ThingsBoard Cloud, a managed service with shared or dedicated infrastructure, or as ThingsBoard On-premises, which runs on the customer's own data center, cloud account or Kubernetes cluster, including air-gapped environments. The on-premises offering is licensed by device count, with a free plan supporting up to 100 devices, month-to-month paid tiers, and a perpetual license option.
