Mailpile
Free and open source privacy focused email client
Mailpile is a free, open source email client that runs on your own computer, combining a mail client, search engine, personal webmail server, and email encryption in one tool. It is designed to keep mail data local rather than uploaded to a cloud service, with no ads or tracking. The project is community funded and released under the AGPLv3 license.
The codebase is written in Python, JavaScript, and HTML5, and is currently being rewritten from Python 2 to Python 3. The team is also exploring a dedicated hardware device that would keep a personal Mailpile instance running 24/7. The current release is listed as tbd, with the next milestone set at 2.0.
Mailpile is aimed at users who want to manage and search their own email locally with encryption support. It is distributed as free software under AGPLv3, with development supported through community donations; no paid editions, trials, or seat-based plans are described.
