Kalpa Labs is an audio research lab developing conversational speech models that follow instructions and learn new tasks in context. Its first models are in open beta, addressing the gap between speech systems that can speak and models that can listen, follow sound-related instructions, and learn a voice or style from examples in context.
The models are available through three surfaces: Studio, for directing multi-speaker scenes with written lines, cast voices, pacing, emotion, and mood; Realtime, a live browser call for talking with the model directly; and a REST API with documentation and an in-browser playground. Capabilities include voice cloning, speech continuation, emotional intensity, and steerability.
The beta models are open for use across Studio, Realtime, and the API, with documentation available for both people and models.
