Inform

A natural-language-based programming language for writers of interactive fiction.

Visit Inform

Inform is a programming language for creating interactive fiction through natural-language syntax. It draws on ideas from linguistics and literate programming, and is used for literary writing, prototyping in the games industry, and education at school and university level, including courses on digital narrative. The language was created in April 2006 and open-sourced in April 2022.

Inform is available as apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, with the source code published on GitHub and as a literate program. The project provides language documentation, proposals for the language's evolution, and a bug tracker, with community discussion taking place on the Interactive Fiction Community Forum. Stories written with Inform are listed in the Interactive Fiction Database, and the project supports the Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation. No pricing, trial, or edition details are stated on the pages provided.
