GNOME
An independent computing platform for everyone
GNOME is an independent computing platform and desktop environment for Linux, providing the graphical user system, including the system interface, display systems, window management, input handling, and system settings. It aims to make everyday computing straightforward, with an overview activated by the Super Key for switching and launching apps and searching the computer, plus support for multiple workspaces.
The project maintains around 120 software modules, including a suite of essential apps for everyday needs, an application development platform and runtime environment, and a design system. GNOME Circle is a certification and mentoring program for apps built on the platform, while Flathub serves as a Linux app store for third-party applications. GNOME is the default experience across distributions including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora Workstation, SUSE Linux Enterprise, Vanilla OS, and Endless OS.
GNOME is developed by a global community of volunteers and paid contributors, backed by the non-profit GNOME Foundation, with work spanning design, development, testing, and documentation. The software is open source and available without restrictions on use. No pricing, trial, or edition details are stated on the pages.
