Firezone is a zero-trust access platform built on WireGuard® that replaces traditional VPNs by connecting users to apps, services, networks, and cloud resources through resource-level access policies. It addresses the complexity of managing network ACLs and the security risks of exposing resources to the internet, using NAT hole punching to keep resources hidden from inbound connections.
The platform includes native clients for macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, ChromeOS, and iOS, along with lightweight Linux Gateway binaries. It supports email and OpenID Connect authentication, directory sync with Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, and Okta, and conditional access policies based on source IP, time of day, country, and authentication method. Additional capabilities include split tunneling, full-tunnel routing, DNS-based routing, secure DNS, device posture checks, device trust, log sinks for Splunk, Datadog, and Elastic, a REST API, and an MCP server for AI assistant integration. Gateway load balancing and automatic failover are available across plans.
Firezone is packaged in four editions: a free Starter plan for up to 6 users, seat-based Team and Business plans billed annually, and a custom-priced Enterprise plan with a 30-day trial. Team and Business use different seat-counting models, with Business counting active seats over a rolling 30-day window. The codebase is open source.
