Cardboard

Cardboard is an AI video editor that turns a text prompt, uploaded footage, or both into an editable first cut. It addresses the problem of starting a video edit from scratch by generating an initial version that users can then refine through chat requests or directly on the timeline. Finished videos can be shared by link for team feedback or exported.

The editor includes tools for generating video, images, music, and sound effects, creating motion graphics from prompts, cloning a voice for narration, sourcing B-roll from the internet, and using reference links. Editing features cover cutting dead air, filler words, and retakes, extracting moments from long recordings, captions, reframing, and chat-directed revisions. Cardboard runs in Chrome and as a Mac app for Apple Silicon, and can connect to Claude Code and Codex through the desktop app.

Cardboard is packaged in four plans: Lite, Starter, Creator, and Pro. Lite is free on Apple Silicon because processing runs locally, and includes standard usage, captions, reframing, video cleanup, motion graphics, and the full editing suite, but excludes generative AI. Paid plans add usage multipliers, generative credits, model access, unlimited exports, NLE exports, AI-generated music, stock footage, voice cloning, web-sourced B-roll, 4K exports, direct clips from social platforms, priority processing, and early access to advanced AI features. Plans are billed monthly or annually, and can be cancelled at any time.
