Arts & Culture Experiments (Experiments with Google)
A VR-ish camera for capturing faces, places, and spaces.
Built in Unity with native Android support, Sprayscape maps the camera feed onto a 360-degree sphere. The Cardboard SDK handles gyroscope data and the NatCam Unity plugin provides camera control. On tap, the camera feed is rendered to a texture at 60 frames per second and composited with existing textures by a fragment shader on the GPU, which also handles the projection from 2D camera to 360 sphere. When a scape is saved, a flat panorama image is stored in app data; when shared, a three.js web viewer wraps the flat image to a sphere for navigation on mobile web by panning, tilting, and moving the device.
