Apache OpenMeetings

Video conferencing, chat, whiteboard, and document collaboration.

Visit Apache OpenMeetings

Apache OpenMeetings is an open-source groupware platform that combines audio and video conferencing with instant messaging, whiteboards, collaborative document editing, file sharing, and meeting scheduling. It is designed to support online meetings and collaborative sessions in a single web-based environment, using API functions of Media Server for Remoting and Streaming Kurento. The project is maintained by The Apache Software Foundation.

Core capabilities include HTML5 audio/video conferencing with selectable audio, video, or picture-only modes, screen sharing, session recording with MP4 download and online playback, and a multi-whiteboard system with drawing, document import, and saved whiteboard files. Each conference room has a file explorer with private and public drives, while an integrated calendar handles meeting invitations and room bookings. Moderation controls let administrators manage permissions for drawing, screen sharing, recording, remote control, audio, and video per participant. The platform also provides polls, private messaging, user and room management, and backup of user-generated data. Integration is supported through REST and SOAP APIs, LDAP/ADS connectors, and VoIP/Asterisk modules.

OpenMeetings is intended for organizations and teams that need self-hosted conferencing and collaboration tools, including environments requiring user and organization management across a single instance. It is distributed as open-source software under The Apache Software Foundation, with releases available for download; the project documentation notes that Java 21 and KMS 7.3.0 or later are required for the current release.
