Spam protection for websites using machine learning filters on user-submitted text
Akismet is a spam-filtering service that analyzes user-submitted text, including comments, form submissions, and forum posts, in real time. It identifies and blocks spam in the background without adding CAPTCHA or other friction for visitors, and provides a dashboard showing what was blocked and what was allowed through. It is built by the team behind WordPress and works with Drupal, phpBB3, Joomla, and other platforms.
The service uses machine learning to classify submissions, with an open API for integrating it into applications. Integrations are available for tools such as Jetpack, Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, and Formidable Forms. A dashboard displays blocked and allowed items, and corrections made by site operators can inform future filtering. Processing is cloud-based, and the service is platform-agnostic.
Akismet is offered for personal use on a pay-what-you-can basis, with commercial plans for professional sites, large networks and multisite installations, and tailored Enterprise solutions. Commercial plans are billed yearly and are based on monthly spam-check allowances, with site limits varying by plan. Protection continues if usage occasionally exceeds the monthly allowance.
