Visit 8bitworkshop

8bitworkshop is a browser-based IDE for writing and running code for classic 8-bit game hardware, consoles, arcade systems, and FPGAs. It lets you write code and see it run instantly in the browser, with built-in assemblers, compilers, debuggers, and hardware emulation covering platforms such as the Atari 2600, NES, Commodore 64, Apple ][+, ColecoVision, MSX, Sega Master System, and various arcade boards.

The IDE includes a built-in 6502 assembler that runs as you type and flags errors, a CPU Cycle Analyzer, single-step debugging, memory and disassembly views, video RAM browsing, CPU profiling, and an Asset Editor for graphics. An in-browser C compiler targets the Z80 CPU for arcade development, with a debugger for stepping through instructions and viewing memory. A Verilog IDE runs logic designs in real time with a simulated CRT, waveform inspection, and examples ranging from counters to custom CPUs. Supported platforms include Atari 2600, NES, Commodore 64, Midway 8080, Galaxian/Scramble, Atari Vector, Williams, and others.

8bitworkshop is aimed at people learning classic game hardware and retro programming, from consoles to arcade systems and FPGA design. The site also offers accompanying books on platforms such as the Atari 2600, NES, C-64, and Verilog-based hardware design, available through external retailers.
